I'm writing a chapter on Driscoll and hypermasculine I'm writing a chapter on Driscoll and hypermasculine leadership in an upcoming edited volume called The Bible and Abuse in Church and Community: Perspectives on Coercive Control and Hypermasculinity from Researchers and Practitioners (Edited by Kirsi Cobb and Holly Morse). He's a strangely toxic mix of "hunter gatherer protect women at all costs type A Jesus and John Wayne alpha male" on the one hand and "strong women scare me shut up and get back in the kitchen" on the other. Either way, he shouldn't be leading in believing communities (in my opinion).

The agency of women is one of the most terrifying things to men, especially men in power. We are one of the biggest threats to them. Thanks for your work and being a leader for us!

It's interesting on many levels. The Canaanite woman came to Jesus regarding her "demon possessed" daughter. Her passion and persistence tell of the urgency, but we don't know what the daughter did to be labeled demon possessed. We do know, however, that the daughter's body likely endured trauma - based on the typical social responses at that time. I'm intrigued by the text you highlighted because money is a form of power. Were these women labeled, in part, because they had their own power? If I'm not mistaken, Weems has a sermon dealing with witches or a witch.
